Patron: Kossuth — Quest Fulfilled
Kossuth, Lord of Flames and Elemental God of Fire, is Kavu's patron. Kossuth's plane was flickering — diminished since losing his wife Asteth the Empress. Kossuth appeared to Kavu in an astral projection (session of 2025-01-25) with a quest: find the place where fire burns against his will and bring Asteth home.
The quest is complete. Kossuth and Asteth are reunited. Their combined divine presence now exists across multiple fire planes.
Kossuth's Task (Completed — Session 2)
Find a "plane within a plane" where fire burns against Kossuth's will — specifically:
- A volcano whose fire does not rage — Vol'kathar's lair: a dormant volcano holding centuries of fire in reserve
- A relic that burns without heat — the Ember Compass
- A place where fire consumes the soul instead of the body — Vol'kathar himself, four centuries of greed and cruelty wrapped around a dragon's heart like chains
Kossuth revealed that Kavu unknowingly carried Asteth's essence — this is why he was chosen. Kavu chose to run into the dragon's throat when he understood what the moment required. The four planes merged. Kossuth and Asteth touched. The quest was fulfilled.
Physical Changes (Post-Scar)
Kavu was touched and permanently marked by both Kossuth and Asteth during the divine reunion:
- His scales carry a faint golden sheen that catches light differently than before
- Some scales flicker with inner fire — warmth without heat, divine not natural
- His left arm is gone from just below the shoulder, wound cleanly cauterized by divine fire and healed as if months old — a cost accepted, not an accident
- Emberyon (his familiar) emerged from the event larger and more present, its form burning brighter and more stable; also touched by the divine convergence
The Ember Compass
Kavu wielded the Ember Compass, an artifact from Eberron's cosmology — a wedge between worlds. When triggered inside Vol'kathar's mouth, it tore the boundaries between four planes of existence (Toril, Fernia, Kossuth's realm, the Aetherial Expanse), channelled the divine reunion of Kossuth and Asteth through the dragon's body, crystallised Vol'kathar in four-coloured divine fire, and created The Scar.
The compass also held a 72-hour temporal bubble — the party had 72 hours outside time before it returned them to the exact moment they had left the Underdark. No time passed for the Tarrasque or the outside world.

GM Notes
Active Hooks
- Errtu's vendetta — before being banished, Errtu promised Kavu: "I will find everyone you have ever loved." He returns in ~100 years. He means it.
- The Fernian Scar — Kavu created a permanent planar wound. Caladorn warned of factions who will come for the Siberys Dragonshards. Fire giants. The Zhentarim. The Harpers. It's already started.
- Ivor and Flamemeet — the village is transforming into a boomtown. Ivor asked for Kavu's help. Kavu owes that to his childhood friend.
- Caladorn's reckoning — the full consequences speech is a promise, not a conclusion. "We will discuss the consequences later."
- The arm — local magic can't replace it. What can? What would the cost be?
- Divine gratitude — two gods owe Kavu a debt. What does that look like in practice?
