Role in Campaign
Relationship to Party
Kossuth is Kavu's patron and divine principal. He chose Kavu as his "Flamekeeper" and searcher for a specific reason: Kavu unknowingly carries the essence of Asteth, the Empress — Kossuth's missing wife.
The Astral Projection (Session dated 2025-01-25)
Kossuth appeared to Kavu in an astral projection and revealed:
- His plane is flickering — diminished since Asteth disappeared.
- Task: Find a "plane within a plane" where fire burns against Kossuth's will — a volcano whose fire does not rage, a relic that burns without heat, or a place where fire consumes the soul instead of the body.
- Kavu carries Asteth's essence unknowingly — drawn to Kossuth for this reason.
- Warning: "Forces will try to snuff out my remaining flame. They will see you as a threat."
Motivations
Kossuth wants his wife Asteth, the Empress returned. Her disappearance has diminished his divine power and darkened his plane. He cannot find her himself — she has gone "beyond his sight, beyond the weave of the Great Planes." Kavu, carrying her essence, is his compass.
Status
Restored. Kossuth's power has returned now that Asteth and he are reunited. The flickering of his plane is over. Kavu's role as Flamekeeper was fulfilled — he was the compass that led Kossuth back to his wife.
GM Notes
After the Reunion
Kossuth's power is restored. His plane no longer dims. The party's contribution to this outcome is real but the implications are their own to discover.
Asteth's absence from the Aetherial Expanse — the plane she governed — has unknown consequences for that plane. What filled the vacuum while she was gone, what now reacts to her departure having been resolved, and what powers in the Aetherial Expanse took advantage of the gap are all open questions. None of this is currently relevant to the party, who are on Faerûn's material plane and have no reason to know any of this.
