A kuo-toa fishing settlement on the shore of the Darklake — a vast, lightless underground sea in the Upper Underdark. Ramshackle docks, cave-shore structures, and flat-bottomed boats built to cross water that sees neither sun nor stars. The kuo-toa here worshipped collectively-constructed deities: their faith so intense and collective that the gods they imagined could occasionally become real.
This is what made them useful. And what made them catastrophically dangerous.
Sloobludop no longer exists. Demogorgon rose from the Darklake and destroyed it.
The Grazzt Pact — What the Party Was Sent to Do
Othorion arrived at Sloobludop carrying Grazzt's binding (sealed at Revel's End, Session B18). The terms: protect the ritual of Blip Blop Pod, a kuo-toa archpriest, and allow it to complete. In exchange, Grazzt would return Othorion's stolen memories — the ones Artemis Entreri had stripped with Styx poison.
Othorion fulfilled his end. The ritual was protected. It completed.
The Ritual — What Actually Happened
Blip Blop Pod's ritual was presented as a ceremony to call forth a new god for the kuo-toa — a manifestation of their collective faith made flesh. What it actually did was tear open a conduit between the Underdark and the Abyss.
All of the demon lords were summoned into the Underdark.
Not one. Not a few. All of them — Demogorgon, Juiblex, Zuggtmoy, Baphomet, Orcus, Yeenoghu, and others. Dragged from their Abyssal domains and dropped into the caverns and tunnels of the deep earth, competing for the same territory, aware of each other, and immediately beginning to clash.
Whether this was Grazzt's intention all along — whether the "memory restoration" deal was his method of securing a reliable agent to make this happen without getting his own hands on the ritual — is an open question.
Demogorgon Rises
The Prince of Demons — Demogorgon — emerged from the Darklake itself, rising from the dark water as the ritual completed. Two heads, two wills, one catastrophic arrival.
He destroyed Sloobludop. The kuo-toa village was simply erased — structures collapsed, inhabitants scattered or killed, the docks gone. The party fled as it happened.
They ran like the situation absolutely demanded.
The Escape
The party fled Sloobludop as Demogorgon finished what he came to do. Exact details of the escape are underdocumented — what direction they ran, whether anyone was injured in the chaos, and whether any kuo-toa survivors followed them.
Consequences — The Underdark Now
The demon lords are in the Underdark. They are fighting each other, hunting, consuming, and spreading. The entire Underdark has been destabilised:
- Drow settlements are under threat — Menzoberranzan has not been directly attacked yet, but the demon lords are moving through drow-adjacent territories
- Underdark travel is significantly more dangerous than it was
- Every major Underdark faction — House Baenre, the Illithid, the Svirfneblin, the duergar — is responding to incursions
- The demon lords are not coordinating — they are competing — which is the only reason the Underdark hasn't fully collapsed yet
Threads
- Grazzt's intent: Was the demon lord summoning the actual goal of the deal all along? Does he owe Othorion the promised memories, and were they delivered?
- Othorion's restored memories: What does he now remember that he didn't before? Is everything Entreri took back, or only fragments?
- Demogorgon's movements: Where is he now? Is he ranging further — toward the surface?
- Lolth and the demon lords: How does the Spider Queen respond to this incursion into her territory?
- The kuo-toa of Sloobludop: Any survivors? Does Blip Blop Pod live?
- The party's culpability: The party allowed this to happen. Does anyone — in the Underdark or on the surface — know that?
