The legendary cave complex that once housed the Forge of Spells — an ancient structure capable of creating magical artifacts. Its location was a closely held Tressendar family secret for generations. Its rediscovery drove the founding of the new Phandalin settlement and the entire first arc of the campaign.
History
The Phandelver Pact, which included the Tressendar family and the Rockseeker dwarves, maintained the Forge of Spells for generations. The cave was lost when orcs overran the area over a century ago. Gundren Rockseeker found the location and was immediately kidnapped by the Black Spider (Nezznar), who wanted control of the forge.
Cleared By
The Forge Wardens cleared the cave in two expeditions:
- First expedition: Defeated Nezznar, freed Nundro Rockseeker
- Second expedition: Cleared remaining threats (trolls, undead, fungus)

Significance
The Chardalyn map found in Nezznar's room pointed the party toward Icewind Dale — a key plot thread that led to the entire northern arc of the campaign.
The Forge is now operational under Phandalin's control. Its strategic value cannot be overstated — it can create magical items of significant power. Who controls it long-term is an unresolved thread.
