A frozen expanse at the top of the world, home to the Ten Towns and the things that prey on them.
Ten Towns
The Ten Towns of Icewind Dale each have their own speaker, quest, and complications. The party will need to navigate all of them.
Lonelywood
- Speaker is angry about a moose; made cookies.
- Quest: The White Moose — leads to an Elven Tomb.
Termaline
- Mine infiltrated by kobolds.
- Mine has a vertical shaft leading to the Underdark.
- Quest: A Beautiful Mine
Targos
- Speaker is secretly a Zhentarim agent.
- Quest: Mountain Climb — guide gone missing on Kelvin's Cairn; only the dog returned.
Bryn Shander
- Conclude Prisoner 13.
- Speaker is head of the Council of Speakers.
- Quest: Foaming Mugs — retrieve sleds of iron ingots from Kelvin's Cairn.
- Note: Kelvin Fairlight is wanted here for explanations (or worse) after allegedly leading a mercenary campaign against an orc horde and vanishing.
Caer-Dineval
- Ferry has stopped; mead deliveries halted; harbor frozen; speaker ill and refusing to act.
- Quest: Black Swords — cultists of Levistus have taken the speaker hostage.
Caer-Konig
- Invisible duergar break-ins; drunken speaker; town is completely cut off.
- Quest: The Unseen — invisible duergar stealing chardalyn for an outpost at the base of Kelvin's Cairn.
Bremen
- Harbor frozen; fishers drag boats out.
- Speaker is elderly and wanders off with memory lapses.
- Quest: Lake Monster — unusual beast (plesiosaur) in Maer Dualdon attacking boats.
Good Mead
- Town of bees.
- A verbeeg marauder killed the town speaker and stole 3 casks of mead 3 days ago.
- Quest: The Mead Must Flow
Easthaven
- Town founded by thieves; pickpocketing is legal.
- Quest: Toil and Trouble
- White Lady arc — possession (DC raised from base CHA 13); tied to treasure given by a hag; curse must be broken by returning treasure to the lake. No Power in the Underdark or Beyond the Witchlight.
- Cauldron Caves — elderly frost giant here to commit ritual suicide; party can gain info on Gerti Orelsdottir.
Dougan's Hole
- Smallest of the Ten Towns; inbreeding.
- Quest: Holed Up — 2 winter wolves extorting the town on behalf of an awakened woolly mammoth named Norsu.
- Missing teens: Silja and Finn Dejarr (missing 4 days, presumed dead by speaker).
Kelvin's Cairn
A significant mountain in the region. Multiple quests reference it:
- Missing guide (Targos quest)
- Iron ingot retrieval (Bryn Shander quest)
- Duergar outpost at its base (Caer-Konig quest)

Kelvin Reputation
Kelvin is wanted in Bryn Shander. Honorary House Taerl membership in Luskan grants access there. See Kelvin Fairlight and Kelvin's Kids.
The White Lady Curse
If the party interacts with the Hag treasure arc in Easthaven, the curse removes all gold from the chest in banks and will manifest on long rests. Must be returned to the lake. Has no power in the Underdark or Feywild.
